Doctor Who 2010 – The new logo

2010 sees a new actor taking over the role of the famous Time-travelling Doctor and every indication is that other major changes will be taking place, the first of these being a new logo, which has returned to the series' roots.

For the duration of the original series, the standard format of the logo was the word 'Doctor' with 'Who' stretched out beneath it. For the tenure of the seventh Doctor 'Doctor' was still above, but handwritten, and the subject of some disdain in fan circles.

When an American revival of the series was later made, it returned to the style of the logo used for the third Doctor, Jon Pertwee, but when the series made a full return in 2005 the logo reflected the completely re-vamped style of the series. Now the words were in a line, encased in a London taxi-style shape.

The new logo announced has been presented both in the traditional top-to-bottom arrangement as well as 2005's in-a-line. Also present is a design using the programme's initials to form the shape of the Police Box, an image unfortunately reminiscent of a Doctor Who fanzine's logo.
