BBC America and BBC UK's Doctor Who websites have a new trailer and new artwork that captures the essence of the trailer.

It starts quietly enough with the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) and his companion, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan), lying on grass at night looking up at the stars. They're on a hill with a city below...

The Doctor is explaining who he is, when a vortex appears beneath them and the two are soon spinning through it and facing deadly enemies! There is a what looks like a black Dalek with its middle section swiveling, one of the Weeping Angels and a strange face may be offering a tantalising glimpse of what's to come in the new series...

The trailer is nice enough but the vortex is a little off somehow and there is a sight 'kid-iness' about the piece. I hope the series will be aimed at a little older kids, so I will not be feeling I am watching a show exclusively for children!

Rating: ★★★☆☆

The trailer was transmitted on BBC and BBC HD in various gaps between the programmes on Saturday February 20th, 2010 and will probably pop up again, as well as in the States. The full sequence lasts a minute although there are shorter versions being shown.

We understand that a 3D version (which might explain the swirling stars and things!) lasting 40 seconds will be shown in cinemas in the UK before Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland starring Johnny Depp. It is released on March 5, 2010.

The first three episodes of the Eleventh Doctor's series have been confirmed as The Eleventh Hour, written by Steven Moffat (we don't know yet if there is any significance of the number 11), The Beast Below, also by Steven Moffat, and Victory of the Daleks by Mark Gatiss. The new series explodes onto our screens in Easter this year both in the States and UK.
