Today we get to see what the new TARDIS interior will look like for the Doctor Who Christmas Special 2012 titled The Snowmen.

We have the current Doctor (Matt Smith) in his period costume standing in front of what looks like a pretty traditional console. Even the room it is in looks smaller and more like the TARDIS interior that was around for the original run of Doctor Who. Is the show getting ready to celebrate it’s 50th Anniversary next year?

The lower part of the walls almost look like the traditional roundels but the top part does divert with the blue circle lights. The monitors on the console are green in this shot is destine to have graphics inserted.

When I first saw the picture I must admit to being a little disappointed but it is growing on me. I guess it will come down to how it looks on screen.

Also today we had two other pictures both showing Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) and the Doctor (Matt Smith) in what Miss Piggy would say is a kissy-kissy embrace. The Doctor is certainly getting more tactile these days.

Having seen the story I feel i should add that the new Tardis set worked much better than the photo lead to believe.

It still has the scale of the recent Tardis sets. Those walls we can see are much further away. At the same time it does have strong links to the original run of the show.

The designer that came up with the initial design was Peter Brachaki. In his design he had a ‘power source’ above the console. So although lacking the ’roundals’ on the walls there are more links to the original than the last few variations.
