Doctor Who – 2010 Series: First Thoughts and Photo

The BBC had released the first image from the recording of the 2010 series, which will be starring a new actor in the lead role, Matt Smith, and his new companion Amy Pond (played by Karen Gillan).

The image gives us a chance to see the new Doctor’s costume. Unofficial images also show elbow patches on the jacket, giving rise to comments that the character of the new Doctor may be akin to the film version of the Doctor, played by Peter Cushing, or perhaps the second tv Doctor, played by Patrick Troughton.

The 2010 series will be under a new team, headed by Steven Moffat, who has already gathered praise for his intelligent scripts for the reborn Doctor Who series.

With a new team, many changes are expected. Steven Moffat predicts, “Matt and Karen are going to be incredible, and Doctor Who is going to come alive on Saturday nights in a whole new way.”

Apart from the feel of the series, there may be more obvious changes. The Police Box has changed its look, reverting back to its appearance at the very beginning of the series, and there are strong rumours that the interior of the Doctor’s time machine, the TARDIS, may be changing…
