Pretty Little Liars follows four estranged best friends who are reunited one year after their best friend and queen bee of the group, Alison, goes missing – only to discover they’re receiving messages from an anonymous ‘A’ who knows all of their secrets.
When we left Emily (Shay Mitchell), Aria (Lucy Hale), Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Spencer (Troian Bellisario) last season, things didn’t look good. Ian’s body was missing and the entire town of Rosewood was questioning what exactly happened the night before at the church.
In an attempt to help their daughters, the girls’ parents enlist the help of a therapist (Annabeth Gish). Now being forced to talk out their problems, the girls feel more alone than ever. Is this woman the person the Liars can finally tell about ‘A,’ or is there no place safe from ‘A’s’ watchful eye?
Shay Mitchell and Troian Bellasario spoke with us about their upcoming season of Pretty Little Liars, which begins on June 14th.
Without getting into trouble with the network, tell us what we can expect this season on Pretty Little Liars?
Shay Mitchell: Basically with the premiere of season two, it takes place moments after the season one finale. So you’re not left to wonder what happened in those moments right after.
You’ll be able to see it, which is neat. And I guess the big things are just finding out what really happened to Ian. Is he dead? Is he alive? And if so, how did he manage that?
I’ve heard a therapist is coming into the mix. Are the girls going to clash over what to tell her?
Troian Bellasario: Definitely. They’ve all shared a traumatic experience but have very different opinion on where they stand, how far they are into wanting to let it go or wanting to rehash it.
Doing something like therapy together is a really stifling experience for them, especially because the girls have so much to lose and so many secrets with each other.
What sort of things are happening for each of your characters on Pretty Little Liars?
Shay: I would say that Emily is moving. She’s packing up. So that is taking place. And I think that’s always been a thing of divide and conquer. She’s wanting to separate the girls and get them alone to mess with them individually.
So she is going to be packing up. And to where exactly, I do know but I can’t say.
Are you leaving Pretty Little Liars?
Shay: No. ‘A’ definitely still wants her in the game.
Troian: Spencer was concerned about her sister being pregnant. So when you come back, since it is literally moments later and since we’ve now seen my brother-in-law try to kill me, the next time I see my sister it’s obviously, ‘Is the baby okay?
How do I tell you that your husband that you think is missing actually is a serial killer?’ It’s a really fun, family episode!
