The new comedy What to Expect When You’re Expecting is based on the popular 1985 ‘how to’ book about giving birth. The movie spotlights several expectant mothers, including Jules (Cameron Diaz), a TV fitness guru, who has just appeared on the reality show Celebrity Dance Fever, doing a lot more than just dancing with her partner, Evan (Matthew Morrison).

Jennifer Lopez co-stars in the film, portraying Holly, a photographer who longs to have a child and decides, along with her husband, Alex (Rodrigo Santoro), to adopt.

Cameron and Jennifer spoke with journalists at the press day for What to Expect When You’re Expecting.

Can you talk about working with your male co-stars on What to Expect When You’re Expecting?

Cameron: I got to dance with Matt Morrison, he is amazing. First off, he’s just the loveliest human being on the face of the planet, and so talented, charming and smart. We had such a great time.

I was so lucky to be able to be his partner, not only in dance but also in us having a baby together.

We don’t know where the baby is right now, after all, it’s a movie baby, so they just took it from us, and it went someplace. The other day I was like, ‘Wait, what am I forgetting?  Oh yeah, what did I do with that baby?’ I was like, ‘Oh yeah. That’s cool.’ (she laughs)

Jennifer: I think I was the envy of the cast, as I had Rodrigo Santoro to be my husband.

We had a great time working together and right away we felt that this couple was the couple that everybody liked to hang out with because they get along. They really loved each other.

They have this kind of life where they are artsy, he’s into music and she’s into photography and they are doing their thing, and they just let it go too long and now they really want to be parents.

I think the funniest thing on set was our very English director, Kirk Jones, who kept telling us to stop being [so affectionate].

He wasn’t comfortable with the affection, and he was like, ‘I don’t think you guys have to hug and kiss that much.’ (she laughs)

We were like, ‘We are Latino, and so we are very affectionate!’ So that was Kirk’s direction for us, ‘Stop touching each other!’

Jennifer, when you were pregnant, what did you learn from reading the book?

Jennifer: I found the book to be so incredibly accurate while I was pregnant and honestly I see why it’s the first thing that you get when you find out that you’re pregnant, because it’s something everybody’s talked about  their whole life, but you know nothing about when it’s happening to you.

This book helps you to not freak out, and helps you to calm down as an expectant mom.
