Probably best known for his role as Will Schuester on the popular TV series Glee, Matthew Morrison took time out last year to co-star alongside of Cameron Diaz in the new comedy What to Expect When You’re Expecting, which opens on May 18th.

In the movie he portrays Evan, a professional dancer on the reality show Celebrity Dance Factor. His partner this season is Jules (Diaz), a celebrity personal trainer. When their dancing turns to romance, Jules discovers she’s pregnant and the couple must face the prospect of a new life together with a baby.

Can you talk a little about Cameron and your character?

Jules and Evan are two very strong-minded people. They butt heads all the time, and they’re challenged to find a compromise in nearly every situation or decision about the baby.

From the little things up to the biggies, like circumcision.

I hear you have a special connection to the material.

For me personally, my dad is a midwife, so this project was so close to me because I asked him a lot of questions. I really feel like I brought a lot of him into this movie for me.

What was it like working with Cameron?

She’s everything you would think Cameron Diaz would be, sweet, effervescent, an amazing personality, tomboyish, and we had so much fun together. I wasn’t expecting the body she had, she’s pretty ripped in this movie, but she’s a fitness person.

We had great chemistry dancing. The sign of a good dancer is that they’ll let their partner lead and she was incredibly trusting of me and let me lead.

Did it make you want to go back to the gym?

No, I think my schedule was one of the hardest to put together, because I was just about to start season three of Glee, and they had to let me out to do this movie for two weeks. So I didn’t have much time to prepare.

But it’s a lifestyle for Cameron. She loves the gym, she loves being with her trainer and working out. I work fifteen hour days on Glee, so it’s a little hard sometimes, but I’m a big runner.

I used to run 45 miles a week and that’s how I stay in shape.

This has been a great season on Glee, can you talk a little about graduation and what you think next season will be like?

That’s a valid question, and I don’t think any of us know the answer to it. I think this season was really great and I think it’s going to end beautifully, wrapping up a lot of the storylines.

We don’t know what’s going to happen next year, which is a little scary for some people because they don’t know if they have a job or not.

I think I’ll be back because I’m the teacher, but it’s a beautiful and emotional ending.
