Cloud Atlas is based on a book by David Mitchell of the same name. Lana and Andy Wachowski, of Matrix fame, have taken to this tale of action, mystery and romance through time. They have added some world class stars such as Tom Hanks and Halle Berry and created what sounds like a fun mind-numbing film.

The book was published in 2004 and the film project started the year after on the London set of V for Vendetta. It was actress Natalie Portman who saw the potential and gave a copy the book to Lana Wachowski, who became fascinated with it.

Both Wachowski brothers wrote a first draft and invited friend Tom Tykwer to co-author while at the same time looking for international investors. In the years that past Natalie Portman becoming pregnant in 2010 had to turn down the role as Sonmi-451.

The film was shot, in what seems as complete as the plot, with two parallel filming units. One with Tom Tykwer in charge and the other with the Wachowski brothers. The two units where completely separate sharing no crew members beside the cast and the directors themselves.

Cloud Atlas opens from Warner Bros Pictures in theaters on October 26, 2012.
