Dallas – Larry Hagman dies during new second season filming

Larry Hagman died Friday in Dallas, where he had been filming the second season of the sequel to his famous show, Dallas.

He was of course famous for his portrayal of one of television’s most beloved villains, JR Ewing, and led the CBS series Dallas to enormous world popularity. He spent more than a decade playing JR Ewing in the 1980’s and had recently been involved in a sequel.

The first season of the sequel had proved popular and the show had started filming it’s second season in October.

He died Friday Nov 23, 2012 in Dallas, where he had been filming the sequel. The death occurred at a hospital at 4:20 pm, and was caused by complications arising from cancer.

In a family statement they said “Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most. He was surrounded by loved ones.”

Long-time friend Linda Gray, who played Sue Ellen, was by his bedside. “Larry Hagman was my best friend for 35 years. He was the Pied Piper of life and brought joy to everyone he knew. He was creative, generous, funny, loving and talented and I will miss him enormously.” said Linda in a statement released by her agent.

“He was an original and lived life to the full.”

The production company said “All of us at TNT are deeply saddened at the news of Larry Hagman’s passing. He was a wonderful human being and an extremely gifted actor. We will be forever thankful that a whole new generation of people got to know and appreciate Larry through his performance as JR Ewing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time”

The shows producers where of course aware of Larry Hagman’s illness and it is hoped the show’s revival will go on.
