We suspect Matt Smith was getting a lot of offers for interesting parts before he decided to leave the show last year but we wonder if playing a key role along side Arnold Schwarzenegger was one of them?
The Terminator reboot is being made by Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions and already has a cast assembled. They consist of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Jai Courtney, JK Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee.
Matt’s role, confirmed just before midday (New York time) by Paramount, is said to have a strong connection to the main hero of the film series, John Connor.
The director of the film is Thor moviemaker Alan Taylor who is working with a screenplay by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier.
Matt’s role of The Doctor on the now world popular television series Doctor Who lasted for three years from 2011 to last year, 2013. He handed over to Peter Capaldi during the rather lame and overly complicated Doctor Who Christmas Special 2013. He can however look back with pride at his tenure with the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, which was screened just the month before, being one of the stand out shows of his time.
Matt’s other television roles include Christopher and His Kind, Moses Jones, and The Street.
He can be seen next on the big screen in Lost River, directed by Ryan Gosling, alongside Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan and Eva Mendes. This film will be screened at Cannes Film festival later this month with October this year looking likely to be the time of it’s theatrical release.
The Terminator reboot release is due in July 2015.
