We knew that something was not quite what many fans had hoped but this is probably the best news they could have got considering the relatively poor showing of the ratings in the US. It looks like Beauty and the Beast‘s very strong fan base and strong set of overseas sales has saved the series!

The CW president Mark Pedowitz confirmed this today to reporters. The decision, he said, to renew Beauty and the Beast (averaged only 1.2 million viewers) and axe the newer and higher rated The Tomorrow People (averaged 1.9 million) was partly that they actually tied for the target age range of 18-34.

Mark further told that Beauty and the Beast performed better in terms of international sales and social engagement. “We’ve always said we’re a very different style of broadcast network,” he said. “We have situations where shows like Beauty have created upside potential, it’s a fan favorite. It has a great international [interest]. Primarily, Tomorrow People was a great show — [it] just didn’t have the same level of social engagement or digital side that Beauty and the Beast gets.”

The CW Network have today confirmed their lineup of shows for the 2014/15 period. This is how the fall 2014 schedules look, starting in October…

  1. Sending all of my support, devotion & especially grateful to Mark Pedowitz, President CW. ‘You’re beautiful”. Your show is beautiful. Thank you for Beauty and the Beast season 3!

  2. Best decision MP ever made ~ to save BatB ~ definitely a fan favorite. We fought so very hard to save our show and we are so grateful. We want MANY more seasons of BatB please. If CW would only promote BatB so that more Americans will know about it I believe the ratings will increase exponentially.

  3. I think B&theB would become much more popular if Cat would stop rationalizing everything all the time! I mean she contradicts herself all the time in a span of 10 minutes. It just got worse in season 2. People, especially ones who have a high risk career like being a detective, are not that wishy washy. At times it gets so bad its irritating. Giving cat a little more backbone would greatly improve the male fan base!
