When we caught up with David Duchovny, publicising his new show Aquarius just before Easter, we just had to ask him about the announcement that Fox will be bringing back The X-Files

David Duchovny’s new series Aquarius premieres in May 2015 and we will be publishing an interview with David and co-star Gethin Anthony (Game of Thrones) on that before it’s airing.

First there was another old show of David’s, apart from X-Files, that we had to check out…

Have you spoken to David Lynch about Agent Denise [David’s character in Twin Peaks back in 1990].

I haven’t but love to, you know I don’t know what their schedule or what there plans are or how may they are doing even. [was planned for 9]

I love that character, I love to shave my legs again. [laughter from us]

Would that work for The X-Files…?

I would just wear pants, you would not know they were shaved.

Note, as David Lynch has since failed to reach agreement with the powers that be, Twin Peaks’ return may now not happen.

Tell us, are you looking forward to going back to The X-Files? Will it be easy to step back into playing Mulder again?

I don’t know if it is easy yet, until I get there and do it, but I am looking forward to it.

But you did, you went into a movie after doing…

But that is already eight years ago, so it has been a while.

I have always wanted to keep it going. We invisioned having a movie franchise when we spotted the TV show. We did two. The second one did well, but I guess not well enough to do a third. And we where all kind of disappointed that did not happen that way…

Television has started to change in that now there are limited runs. I would never have gone and done another 22 episodes of X-Files but I going to do six.

So it became, well that is like doing a movie, that is like continuing the show in a way that we can all do it at this point in our lives so that is how it came about.

If this batch of six episodes of The X-Files does well would you want to do any more?

I don’t know, six sounds to me very do-able at any walk of my life, it is not a great hardship in terms of time.

I would hope it would be successful, I would hope we could continue but right now we are just looking at it as these six and then we will see what happens.

The other night you mentioned on The Late Show With David Letterman that Skinner and Smoking Man are coming back. Is there anything else you could tell us about X-Files

Yeah, I don’t even know that. I am not even sure they are signed up yet. I don’t know. I guess I spoke out of turn. I assume they will. I assume we will have as many people as we can. The show is the show.

Do you and Gillian [Anderson] keep up with each other?

Yes. We live together, as has been reported! [more laughter from us]

Do you feel that television there is now more freedom for violence that there was originally?

I suppose so. I not like a violence fan. I don’t look at it so much so I don’t think about it. I have seen some images from Hannibal and I think that is well within what we need.

I can’t imagine we what to get any weirder and darker than that. I feel that we are fine.
