At the premiere for Deepwater Horizon in New Orleans star Kate Hudson tells about her role as Felicia Williams. She is the wife to Mark Wahlberg’s lead character of Mark Williams.
Kate was pleased to bring to life the human experience of the dramatic event. She explains that, “Audiences will get to know these people” and how the actual experience was “terrifying and challenging”.
Kate adds, “Felicia’s perspective is that of someone who couldn’t know what was going on for her husband”. She further points out that, “All she saw is what was on the news”.
Kate Hudson and the real life Felicia Williams
Having the real life Felicia Williams on set with her was a bonus. “It was really helpful because there were moments where I could go up to her and just ask her ‘What was this like? How did this moment feel for you?’”
Kate also realised that it “brought back a lot of trauma for Felicia and Mike”, Williams, who was also on set.
Kate Hudson on starring with her father, Kurt Russell
She also adored getting the chance to be on set with her real-life father, Kurt Russell. Though they share no scenes together, this is the first film they both star in. Kate tells, “I loved seeing Mark [Wahlberg] and my Pa, Kurt, working together, what a great combination they are”.
She saw that they are “both very much working men, very American men”. Adding, “To see them paired together on screen was pretty great.”
She also commented on the director Pete Berg. “Pete has great energy and instincts and he’s very fast, which creates a more realistic performance.” Kate also noted, “Often you don’t know even where the cameras”. She liked this, “because you have to stay present and it allows him to catch the moments that are most real”.
