Production has began on Darkest Hour which tells the story of Churchill (Gary Oldman) attempting to change the course of world history.

Gary Oldman stars as Winston Churchill during his first time as UK’s Prime Minister. This started in 1940 and continued until 1945.

Director Joe Wright is in charge of the production which is currently filming in the UK. He is know for his productions of Anna Karenina, Atonement and Pride & Prejudice.

The Story

The film has Churchill within days of becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain. Here he must face one of his most turbulent and defining trials. He has to explore a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or standing firm to fight for the ideals, liberty and freedom of a nation.

There is the unstoppable Nazi forces roll across Western Europe and the threat of invasion is imminent. He has to contend with an unprepared public, a skeptical King, and his own party plotting against him. Churchill must rally a nation, and attempt to change the course of world history!

Production

Joining Mr Oldman in the cast are Stephen Dillane, John Hurt, Lily James, Ben Mendelsohn, and Kristin Scott Thomas.

The original screenplay of Darkest Hour is by Anthony McCarten of The Theory of Everything fame. Also involved are Working Title co-chairs Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.

Focus Features will release Darkest Hour on November 24th 2017 in the US with Universal Pictures International distributing the film globally. The first of the international dates begins with the UK on December 29th 2017.
