In episode two of this series, written by Steven Moffat, Sherlock faces perhaps the most chilling enemy of his long career. Namely the powerful and seemingly unassailable Culverton Smith. He is man with a very dark secret indeed.

Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Sherlock Holmes, with Martin Freeman as John Watson and Mark Gatiss as Mycroft. Also appearing are Rupert Graves as Inspector Lestrade, Una Stubbs as Mrs Hudson, Amanda Abbington as Mary Watson, Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper and Toby Jones as Culverton Smith.

Episode two is directed by Nick Hurran.

Sherlock is produced by Sue Vertue. The executive producers are Beryl Vertue, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat for Hartswood Films, Bethan Jones for BBC Cymru Wales and Rebecca Eaton for Masterpiece.

Toby Jones aka the unassailable Culverton Smith

Toby Jones is a well know English actor who has appeared in The Secret Agent, Marvellous and The Girl. He said of this role, “I’m excited and intrigued by the character I shall be playing in Sherlock…”

While Co-creator Steven Moffat, said he was, “Delighted to have Toby Jones on board, bringing to life one of Doyle’s finest villains.”
