ABC Newsline recently did a report about the recreation of Peter Cushing’s character Grand Moff Tarkin for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
The news item details bringing back the late Peter Cushing and 19-year-old Carrie Fisher for a story taking place before the original 1977 Star Wars. It shows how this was a CGI challenge and includes behind the scenes footage on set.
We thought the Cushing scenes worked very well. Those familiar with Guy Henry’s work in the UK show Holby however found they could not but help hear Guy’s voice when the Grand Moff talked.
It is also shown that the same technique was also used for some of the attack pilots. For us these passed by without giving them any thought, aside from nice to have the seventy’s look characters.
Some have said the young Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) recreation felt a little odd. Of course we do have to remember by that stage we had all got wise to the recreation process. Those critical were probably trying to see some tell tale signs. The scene was also very brief but made a great finale.
