Here is a Doctor Who Christmas Special 2017 Clip where our heroes escape in the first Doctor’s TARDIS.
In the Doctor Who Christmas Special 2017 Clip we get our first look at what the production has done to re-make the first Doctor’s TARDIS interior. The clip just has the wall with the doors and a close-up of the central column. In the pictures released for the Doctor Who Christmas Special 2017 we see a bit more.
Photo blowup wall missing
Despite them going to great lengths with having the TARDIS exterior as it was back in 1966 one thing inside is not as it was. Back then part of the walls was a photo blowup. I met BBC designer Peter Brachacki in 1976. He had designed the TARDIS interior for the first episode. He said he used a photo of the plastic packing for tablets. I seem to think is was a cost thing. However it was used right from the start and believe it continued in use into the Jon Pertwee years.
In the pictures where you might expect the photo blowup wall we have moulded circles in hexagons! Maybe it is a plot point?? Maybe the current designer thought Photo blowup wall looked naff? Maybe he wanted to link it to be current TARDIS interior? They seemed to have gone to a lot of trouble with other things so this is a bit of a puzzle!
The white hexagon circles have been seen before. Behind Tom Baker in the Art Gallery….
First Doctor’s Yellow Hair
One other thing you may note is the pictures show the first Doctors’s hair being a bit yellow. In An Adventure in Space and Time it is white. It’s the same wig but it’s been in storage. Apparently no one noticed until is was too late. Post production has involved them removing the yellow! Whoops!
The story will be aired on Christmas Day. This includes BBC America and BBC One in the UK.
