Mortal Engines Lowdown

Mortal Engines is set thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event. Here humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth and they ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns.

Of the main characters we have Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan) hailing from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London. He finds himself fighting for his own survival. This is a result of his encounter with the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). They are two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed. But together they forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.

Christian Rivers (King Kong) who is an Oscar®-winning visual-effects artist, directed the startling, new epic adventure Mortal Engines.

Joining Rivers are The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies three-time Academy Award®-winning filmmakers Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. They have penned the screenplay.

The adaptation is from an award-winning book series by Philip Reeve. They were published in 2001 by Scholastic.

On board as producers are Zane Weiner (The Hobbit trilogy) and Amanda Walker (also of The Hobbit trilogy). Plus we have Deborah Forte (Goosebumps) as well as Walsh and Jackson.

Ken Kamins (The Hobbit trilogy) joins Boyens as executive producer.

Universal will distribute the film worldwide.
