There have been many rumours but it now really looks like Jodie Whittaker is to leave Doctor Who at the end of next series.

This is basically from a leak The Mirror newspaper has obtained. They have been told, “It’s all very hush-hush but it is known on set that Jodie is leaving and they are gearing up for a regeneration.”

Jodie took over the role in 2017 as the first female actress to play the role. She has just completed her second year with the New Years special involving Daleks.

The production team had already started filming her third season in November 2020.

Not a record breaking run

Three years is normal length of time for someone to be in the role. In fact it’s believed it’s part of the contract when someone is offered the role.

Jon Pertwee did five years and the much loved Tom Baker did seven. But those are the exceptions.

We understand the Sontarans and Weeping Angles will be making a comeback in Jodie’s final run.

The BBC did not wish to comment this Sunday on the news.
